Significant Events in your life: Giving birth to my one and only child, JoEll Grace Perry, April 15, 2002
Being appointed SRMAA Iowa State Director, May 2001

People who motivated me, or helped arrive at this point in my life: Soshu has been my motivator; he has supported me and encouraged me over the past 17 years that he has known me. Someone I value very much and respect
his advice. My husband Rodney and our Lord Savior Jesus Christ

Obstacles I had to over come: My size at 5’3 and 110 pounds I finally realize I do not have the physical strength as a man. But I have other strength’s that work to my advantage. Injuries during my early Shodan ranks I did not use my head as much as I should of.

Family, Friends, Instructors etc. who are important at this time in my life: My husband Rodney, my daughter JoEll, Soshu Dawson & my mother.

Why I am studying my present style: I have been real blessed to begin in a traditional system and to have an awesome instructor. Soshu Dawson educated me real well in Seishin Ryu that I have had no desire to look for any other martial arts.

What I have learned from studying the Martial Arts: I have learned patience, perseverance, and humility, just to name a few. I can’t imagine what I would be like if I did not have Seishin Ryu in my life. I have grown up in the system and it has changed my life to be a better person. Plus the physical aspects have helped me keep in shape and stay in shape. I feel very secure with my abilities if I was ever attacked on the streets.

Philosophy I try to live by: This is hard! I try to live a Christian life but I fall short every day.

Advice that may help others in life, and with their study of the Martial Arts: Never compare yourself to anyone else, we were all given special gifts and everyone has their own talents, use what you are good at and work hard at what you need to improve on. Be positive and stay in touch with yourself. See every situation in your life as something positive; help others with out expecting anything in return.
